Meeting on November 6th
The NNA meets every first Thursday of the month in the Newport Performing Arts Center (PAC) lobby. Our current project is to provide input on the commissioned report on transforming our neighborhood into a cultural district.
What is a Cultural District? A cultural district in Oregon is a designate geographic area with a high concentration of arts and cultural assets like galleries, theaters and museum, designed to foster community and drive economic development. These districts, such as Portland’s Alberta Arts District, highlight local history, artistic talent, and unique community identities. They often host events, support businesses, and revitalize neighborhoods. For more information read more here: Oregon Arts Commission on Cultural Districts
In October, our members reviewed proposals prepared by consultant Lawrence Qamar, who has done similar work in the past. We reviewed pages 10-15, and shared reflections. Here’s a copy of the report.Nye Cultural District Proposals
At our November 6th meeting, we will continue to review the proposals in small groups and give input. We will review pages 15-22.
Please join us for a light meal and work with your neighbors to give input to the Cultural District Steering committee.
We’ll be in the PAC lobby on November 6th from 5:30-7:oo pm..
